Summer construction sites will begin on the Lombardy network from 9 June

RFI, which manages the railway infrastructure, has announced that from Sunday 9 June and throughout the summer months, expansion and maintenance works are planned on various parts of the network. This will lead to changes or suspension of train services on some lines and the setting up of replacement bus services.
The timetable search engine on the website and App is updated with the train and bus timetables in force from 9 June.
Below are the details of the construction sites and the changes on the lines where works will take place.
Works starting 9-10 June
From Monday 10 June to Sunday 8 September
Milano-Lecco-Sondrio-Tirano and Lecco-Sondrio-Tirano lines
Due to infrastructure upgrading and extraordinary maintenance works between Colico and Tirano, train services between these two stations will be suspended. Trains will run from Milano to Colico; for travel between Colico and Tirano, a replacement bus service will be operated.
Some buses will connect Colico and Sondrio directly; others will connect Colico and Tirano, with a single intermediate stop at Tresenda; others will make all the stops scheduled for the train.
From 10 June, the service on the line will be strengthened with extra services being operated:
- RE 2822, Milano C.le (dep.11.20) – Colico (arr.12.46), runs on Saturdays and holidays;
- RE 2830, Milano C.le (dep.15.20) – Colico (arr.16.46), runs on Saturdays and holidays;
- RE 2844, Milan C.le (dep.22.20) – Lecco (arr.23.01), runs on public holidays;
- RE 2819, Colico (dep.9.15) – Milano C.le (arr.10.40), runs daily;
- RE 2823, Colico (dep.11.15) – Milano C.le (arr.12.55), runs on Saturdays and holidays.
- RE 2831, runs with new numbering 2801, leaves from Colico (dep.15.15) - Milano C.le (arr.16.40), runs on Saturdays and holidays.
Extra services to and from Milano Porta Garibaldi running on holidays from 25 April onwards will be confirmed; these services will depart/arrive at Colico, instead of Sondrio:
- R 10318 Lecco (dep. 10.15) – Sondrio (arr. 12.10), will operate with new train number 94044, leaving from Milano P. Garibaldi at 9.22 to Colico (arr. 11.23);
- R 10318 Lecco (dep. 10.15) – Sondrio (arr. 12.10), will operate with new train number 94044, leaving from Milano P. Garibaldi at 9.22 to Colico (arr. 11.23);
- R 10333 Sondrio (dep.15.47) – Lecco (arr. 17.45), will operate with new train number 94043, from Colico (dep.16.37) and ends the journey at Milano P. Garibaldi at 18.38;
- R 10335 Sondrio (dep.16.47) – Lecco (arr.18.45), will operate with new train number 94045, from Colico (dep.17.37) and ends the journey in Milano P. Garibaldi at 19.38.

From Sunday 9 June to Sunday 8 September
Milano Centrale-Domodossola and Milano Porta Garibaldi-Arona-Domodossola lines
Due to infrastructure upgrading works on the Domodossola-Arona section, train services between these two stations will be suspended. A replacement bus service will be operated between Domodossola and Arona. Trains will run between Milan and Arona, with some timetable changes between Sesto Calende and Arona, due to further infrastructure works to be carried out in Sesto Calende.
Furthermore:
- RE 2427 Domodossola (dep.13.36) – Milano Centrale (arr.14.35) on weekdays (except Saturdays) runs from Sesto Calende (p.13.44) to Milano Centrale; from Domodossola to Sesto Calende runs the bus;
- RE 2424 Milano Centrale (dep.12.25) – Arona (arr.13.22), on weekdays (excluding Saturdays) will be replaced with buses from Sesto Calende to Arona;
- R 10215 Domodossola (dep.06.01) – Milano P. Garibaldi (arr.08.14), on weekdays (including Saturdays), will be replaced with buses from Domodossola to Sesto Calende.

From Sunday 9 June to Sunday 8 September
S7 Milano-Molteno-Lecco line
For extraordinary maintenance works and infrastructure upgrading between Monza and Lecco, train services will be replaced by buses between these two stations.
To travel between Monza and Milan, passengers can use the S8 Milano-Carnate-Lecco and S11 Rho-Milano-Como San Giovanni-Chiasso lines.
From Sunday 9 June to Sunday 8 September
Como-Lecco line
To allow extraordinary maintenance work between Albate and Molteno stations, service on this line will be suspended. Replacement buses will run between Molteno and Como Camerlata.
To travel between Molteno and Lecco, travellers may use the replacement buses substituting the S7 Milan-Molteno-Como line. Meanwhile, the connection between Como Camerlata and Como San Giovanni will be covered by trains on the S11 Rho-Milano-Como San Giovanni-Chiasso line.
From Sunday 9 June to Sunday 8 September
Pavia-Mortara-Vercelli line
For extraordinary maintenance works between Cava Carbonara and Mortara stations, the entire service on the line will be substituted by a replacement bus service.

Works starting 25 June
From Sunday 23 June to Sunday 25 August
Line S9 Saronno-Seregno-Albairate
Due to infrastructure upgrading works for the construction of the new Milano Porta Romana station, no services will run between Milano Lambrate and Milano San Cristoforo. Trains will run between Saronno and Milan Lambrate maintaining the current timetable. Between Milan San Cristoforo and Albairate, trains will run according to a rescheduled timetable that will include services running every 30' / 60' (depending on the time slot) on weekdays excluding Saturdays and with an hourly frequency on Saturdays and holidays.
From Milano San Cristoforo travellers may reach Milano P. Genoa with trains on the Milano-Mortara-Alessandria line. The Milano P. Genova and Milano Lambrate stations are connected by the metropolitan service, M2 – “Green line”, which can be used with STIBM integrated tickets.
From Sunday 23 June to Sunday 25 August
Milano-Mortara-Alessandria line
Coinciding with the infrastructure upgrade works for the construction of the new Milano Porta Romana station, the timetable of some services will undergo slight changes, to guarantee coincidence with the S9 line trips and facilitate connections between Milano San Cristoforo and Milano Porta Genoa.
Works starting 28 July
From Sunday 28 July to Sunday 8 September
Pavia-Torreberetti-Alessandria line
Due to extraordinary maintenance works, train services will be suspended between Pavia and Cava Carbonara; these two stations will be connected by replacement buses.
Trains will run between Cava Carbonara and Alessandria, with a modified timetable.

Works starting 4 August
From Sunday 4 August to Sunday 25 August
Brescia-Cremona line
For extraordinary maintenance works between San Zeno and Olmeneta stations, all services on this line will be substituted by a replacement bus service.
From Sunday 4 August to Sunday 1 September
Gallarate-Luino and S30 Bellinzona/Cadenazzo-Luino-Gallarate lines
For extraordinary maintenance works in Besozzo station, trains will be replaced by buses between Laveno Mombello and Gallarate. There will be changes to services on the Laveno – Cadenazzo section, to guarantee connections to/from Milan.
From 10 June to 26 July, on weekdays (excluding Saturdays), train S30 25361 will be replaced by new train 25351 which will follow an alternative route via Sesto Calende – Ispra (from Laveno M. to Gallarate) with an extra stop in Vergiate. A replacement bus 3561A is planned from Laveno M. to Gallarate.
Customers who use trains on alternative routes with higher mileage will be able to use tickets valid for the original journey between the Laveno Mombello and Besnate routes, without any fare increase.
