RULES OF USE
Classes and services that can be used
On rail services, STIBM tickets are valid in second class only (both on Trenord services and on Trenitalia services operating regional transport services under the new integrated fare system).
Passengers who need to travel first class on rail services operating in the STIBM area can take First Class Supplements, valid in conjunction with the integrated STIBM regular, daily and three-day tickets, and travel passes, for any area radius up to MI9. .
The new supplement will be issued in three different amounts:
- First Class supplement for occasional trips at €1.60
- Monthly First Class supplement at €30.00
- STIBM Annual First Class supplement at €300.00
The First Class Supplements, which can be used on all Trenord and Trenitalia services that operate within the validity of the Lombardy regional fare, allow for an unlimited number of journeys during the period of validity of the ticket they accompany; in the case of regular and daily tickets, they are valid until the last train on the day of validation, even if after midnight (if combined with three-day tickets, three First Class Supplements must be purchased).
The use of the Trenord airport service, Malpensa Express, is allowed only in the urban area of Milan (with the exclusion of the 21 municipalities in the first ring), and on the extra urban second class Milan - Rescaldina (Mi1- Mi7) route, exclusively on trains to/from Milano Centrale.
Travellers with a STIBM ticket can travel several routes and combine several vehicles both continuously and with intermediate stops, only within the time and space limits provided by the tickets purchased.
Validation and change of vehicles
The traveller in possession of the integrated tickets must carry out validation before the start of the journey and for each change of vehicle, otherwise the traveller without validation will be considered as having no travel documents and will be penalised, in accordance with the rules laid down by the carrier that discovers the irregularity.
Specifically, the first validation must be carried out, depending on the mode of transport used:
- before boarding the train in accordance with the rules laid down in the current T&Cs
- at the subway access turnstiles
- on-board surface vehicles
The validation shall be repeated on access to each subsequent means used (except in the interchange between two rail services where validation is mandatory before access to the first of the trains used).
The last validation must be made within the period of validity and the journey must be made within the period of validity of the ticket.
The STIBM integrated ticket must be kept on board and within the station or stop areas to which access is limited by turnstiles and must be presented to the control staff, at their request, at any time during the journey, including at the stop when getting off the vehicles.
STIBM tickets are not transferable after validation..
Intermediate stops
Travellers with a STIBM ticket can travel several routes and combine several vehicles both continuously and with intermediate stops, only within the time and space limits provided by the tickets purchased.
STIBM tickets allow intermediate stops to be made only if the station is located in the STIBM area.
The following table shows the only extra STIBM locations where intermediate stops with STIBM tickets are allowed, which are allowed only for interchanges with other rail and road services.
Both trains and buses can be used as part of the interchange.

Fare extensions and extended route
Provisionally, within STIBM, it is possible to issue fare extensions, only from the ATM sales network, and for urban season tickets loaded on ATM cards. The necessary update activities are underway in order to allow for sales also on the Trenord sales network.
For example: a traveller in possession of the monthly urban pass Mi1- Mi3a can apply for a fare extension for Locate Triulzi (Mi3 - Mi4).
Long distance and conjunction tickets are not available for travellers holding STIBM tickets.
Refunds and Bonuses
STIBM tickets are refundable according to the rules of the current Trenord T&Cs; travel passes are not subject to any bonus.
